RATINGS

94Wine Enthusiast

Luxurious in texture and subtle and complex in flavors...creamy mouthfeel of a great Chardonnay with its own set of mild flavors hinting at honey, lemon blossoms and lanolin that build on the palate and linger nicely on the finish.

93Vinous / IWC

Varietal floral and orchard fruit notes open first. There's terrific energy driving this taut, vibrant Viognier from the estate. Hints of apricot, ginger, peach, spice and mint linger.

92The Wine Advocate

Floral and peppery on the nose, it also boasts scents of apricot and pear in a nicely balanced expression of varietal character. Medium to full-bodied, it's not a huge, viscous example of Viognier but one that balances ripeness and acidity on a fine edge, leaving behind lingering citrus notes on the finish.

16Jancis Robinson

On the nose, it shows aromas of chalk, peach and orange blossom but they're somewhat subdued in intensity. The palate is round with some pithiness to it. Enough acid to keep it fresh and zesty, nothing overripe but with a richer mouthfeel. Lingering blossom character on the finish.

PRODUCER

Pride Mountain

Pride Mountain Vineyards was founded in 1991 by Jim and Carolyn Pride on a site once known as Summit Winery. Both Jim and Carolyn were native Californians from long-time farming families, so it wasn’t too big a leap for Jim to scale back his dentistry career to start making wine in the Spring Mountain District of Napa Valley. Jim Pride died in 2004, but the Pride children, Steve Pride and Suzanne Pride Bryan, now own and run the winery, which is considered one of the notable stars of the Napa Valley. Carolyn Pride also remains active at the winery. The property consists of 235 acres, 183 of which are planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Syrah, Sangiovese, Viognier and Chardonnay. The Pride Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve and Reserve Claret are especially renowned, earning high marks from reviewers and collectors. About 18,000 cases are produced annually.

TYPE

White Wine, Viognier

This is a full-bodied white variety has plenty of natural aromatics such as peach and violets. It’s a low yielding fruit, so it is grown for its taste over its economics. Viognier is considered an ancient grape and an early favorite of the Roman emperors.
