RATINGS

89-92Stephen Tanzer

Ripe aromas of black cherry, musky coffee and dark chocolate; slightly reduced. Silky, supple and fine-grained, with rich chocolate and coffee flavors complicated by pepper and leather. Plenty of personality here. Finishes with very good length.

This too is very fresh, elegant and pure with plenty of Vosne spice adding nuance to the lovely mix of red and black pinot fruit notes and supple, forward and textured flavors underpinned by moderate structure and fine length. This is very Vosne in character and offers much to admire.

Ripe cherry aromas. Very rich and sweet and really rather gorgeous. Lots of acidity and tannins. Very fresh and uncompromising. Long.

PRODUCER

Louis Jadot

Maison Louis Jadot is one of Burgundy’s most respected negociants. Founded in 1859 by the Jadot family, the prestige and quality of the estate’s wines were well established in the 19th century. The family continued buying highly desirable vineyards in the 20th century. In 1985 the estate was sold to Rudy Kopf, Jadot’s American importer. Located in Beaune, the estate has 336 acres of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Gamay. Though all the maison’s wines are known for their high quality, signature wines are the Bonnes Mares, Chambertin-Close de Beze, Chevalier-Montrachet les Demoiselles, Corton-Charlemagne, Le Montrachet and Musigny. Pierre-Henry Gagey is president.

REGION

France, Burgundy, Côte d'Or, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanee, Les Beaux Monts

Les Beaux Monts is a 28.6-acre Premier Cru vineyard in the Vosne-Romanee appellation of Burgundy’s Cote de Nuits. It is on the northern edge of the appellation, bordering Flagey-Echezeaux. The vineyard has a southern exposure, and the soil is part clay and marl. It is one of the largest of Vosne-Romanee’s Premier Crus. Clive Coates calls Les Beaux Monts “a nice big wine, but nonetheless perfumed, full of finesse, even lush.”

TYPE

Red Wine, Pinot Noir, 1er (Premier) Cru

This red wine is relatively light and can pair with a wide variety of foods. The grape prefers cooler climates and the wine is most often associated with Burgundy, Champagne and the U.S. west coast. Regional differences make it nearly as fickle as it is flexible.
