RATINGS

92John Gilman

...deep, smoky and meaty nose of cassis, espresso, grilled game, woodsmoke, dark soil tones and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, ripe and beautifully detailed, with a sappy core, fine soil signature, firm tannins and a long, well-balanced and promising finish.

91-93The Wine Advocate

Aromas of cherries, sweet soil tones, dark chocolate and woodsmoke...medium to full-bodied, supple and enveloping wine that's round and gourmand, with lively acids and melting tannins cloaked in an ample core of fruit.

91-93Vinous / IWC

...fine mineral-driven bouquet of black plum and raspberry fruit plus hints of black truffle. The medium-bodied palate presents supple tannins, dark cherries and blackberry fruit with touches of sous-bois and gentle grip on the finish.

REGION

France, Burgundy, Côte d'Or, Côte de Nuits-Villages, Nuits-St.-Georges, Aux Vignerondes

Aux Vignerondes is a 9.4-acre Premier Cru vineyard in the Nuits-Saints-Georges appellation, in Burgundy’s Cote-de-Nuits. Because there are no Grand Cru vineyards in Nuits-Saints-Georges, the appellation’s considerable reputation rests on its excellent Premier Crus. Aux Vignerondes is in the northern part of the appellation, where the soil is limestone mixed with gravel. Burgundy writer Clive Coates notes that the wines from these northern Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Crus are “rich, full and elegant.”

TYPE

Red Wine, Pinot Noir, 1er (Premier) Cru

This red wine is relatively light and can pair with a wide variety of foods. The grape prefers cooler climates and the wine is most often associated with Burgundy, Champagne and the U.S. west coast. Regional differences make it nearly as fickle as it is flexible.
