RATINGS

93James Suckling

...delicious red with ripe plums and chocolate with some hazelnuts and spices. Full-bodied, dense and layered. Shows excellent depth and flavor.

92The Wine Advocate

...aromas of sweet blackberries, spices and cherries. Medium to full-bodied, supple and charming, its melting tannins cloaked in an ample core of fruit, this bright, expressive wine is already drinking well.

92Wine Enthusiast

This juicy wine is full of red fruits with a core of firm tannins. It has the acidity that is such a mark of the vintage, giving freshness and crisp fruitiness.

91Jeb Dunnuck

...balanced, medium-bodied effort that has classy cherry and currant fruits as well as ample damp earth, spice, and sappy herb nuances.

90Vinous / IWC

16+ Jancis Robinson

Spicy, some intrigue and vibrancy on both nose and palate. Some spiced plum, with grippy, sappy cedar flavour. Bright, with lively acids lifting the finish.

REGION

France, Bordeaux, St.-Estephe

Saint-Estèphe is in the northern Médoc, on the left bank of the Gironde River. Although it has no First Growth estates, its five Second, Third, Fourth and Fifth Growth châteaux are notable, and, in recent decades, have become favorites with reviewers and consumers. Some reviewers also note that the appellation is today making excellent Cru Bourgeois wines, which frequently offer good value. There are 3,404 acres of vineyards and a variety of soil types, from gravelly soil to soil with significant sand or clay. The two Second Growth Châteaux in St.-Estephe are Cos d’Estournel and Montrose. The Third Growth Calon-Ségur is widely admired. The principal grapes grown are Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
