Mas Amiel

Mas Amiel is the largest independent producer in Maury, which is inside the Roussillon appellation on the southwest Mediterranean coast. The winery has a colorful history, since it was founded in 1816 when Raymond Amiel won the deed to the land during a card game with the Bishop of Perpignan. Today the 155-acre estate is owned by Olivier Decelle. Mas Amiel was for much of its history a producer of fortified wines only, and it is still best known for its Grenache based fortified styles. But in recent decades the estate has also started producing a wide range of non-fortified wines including dry whites and roses.
