Clos Fourtet is a 45-acre estate owned by Philippe Cuvelier, who also owns Chateau Poujeaux. Robert M. Parker Jr. notes that the estate “has been resurrected” by Cuvelier and is producing wines with “striking richness.”
Unlike many Rhone Valley producers, Château Beaucastel grows all 13 of the grapes permitted in the appellation. The estate also uses an unusually high percentage of Mourvedre in its red wines – one reason they are so distinctive.
Château L’Eglise-Client in Pomerol has some of the region’s oldest vines, with some vines dating back 100 years. The 11.2-acre estate also has in the last 25 years produced some of the Pomerol’s most acclaimed wines.
