Emmanuel Rouget is the nephew of the late, great Henri Jayer, one of Burgundy’s legendary winemakers. Rouget started making wines under his own label in 1985 after having apprenticed with his famous uncle for many years.
Beringer Vineyards was started by German immigrant brothers in 1876. They built a mansion like those they admired in the Rhine Valley. Today, the estate is on the National Register of Historic Places.
Petrus has no official classification, nor is there a château on its Pomerol property. But it needs no introduction. It is one of the most sought after Bordeaux wines, today made entirely of Merlot.
