The Colonial Estate

The Colonial Estate is in Lyndoch, South Australia. It was started by Jonathan Maltus, an English businessman who owns several chateaux in St. Emilion, Bordeaux. In Australia his first limited-production vintage was in 2002. Colonial Estate makes wines from vineyards in the Barossa Valley and Eden Valley. The wine portfolio includes Shiraz, Cabernet, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, sparkling wines, and several blends. Wine critics have generally been impressed. James Halliday, the dean of Australian wine writers, rated Colonial a 5 star winery, his highest accolade.
