Família Nin-Ortiz is literally a labor of love. The estate high on the rugged slopes of Cataluna was founded when pair of young, university-trained enologists, Carles Ortiz and Ester Nin, both found themselves in the same appellation working a few acres of vineyards. Each had bought property with an eye to making wine and were busy renovating old vine vineyards and planting new ones. Today they are a family and they own and work 34 vineyard acres certified as organic and biodynamic. Familia Nin-Ortiz makes red and white wines from indigenous grapes. The wines have earned scores in the high 90s from reviewers, and they are considered stars of the new wave of Priorat winemakers.
