Domaine Guiberteau in Saumur was founded in the early 20th century by Clement Manguin, great-grandfather of the man who now runs it, Romain Guiberteau. In the 1990s Romain decided to break the family tradition and go into law, rather than winemaking. But he quickly realized that winemaking was in his DNA and law was not. In 1996 he took over the family estate and the next year produced his first vintage as winemaker. The 37-acre estate grows Cabernet Franc and Chenin Blanc. The estate is certified as organic. Vinous has complimented various vintages as “first class.”
