RATINGS

94Wine Spectator

A flinty, steely style, featuring aromas and flavors of oyster shell, apple, lemon and, above all, mineral. Firm and slightly austere, yet balanced and long on the aftertaste.

93Stephen Tanzer

As creamy as this is in the mouth, it's most notable for its sheer energy and verve, with lemon and crushed stone flavors that pulsate in the middle palate and on the very long aftertaste. A classic vintage for this wine.

93Burghound.com

...impressively scaled broad-shouldered flavors that possess a beguiling texture as well as an almost painfully intense, palate staining finish that is bone dry. In a word, gorgeous.

92The Wine Advocate

Mingles fresh white peach, rhubarb, orange zest, and vanilla in the nose, and comes to the palate with a corresponding sense of invigoration, refreshment and tart, pungent chew...

17Jancis Robinson

Very creamy nose, almost buttery. Nutty citrus. Very crisp, tense and great concentration in a linear yet powerful style and then greater richness and length. Great tension and well structured, some tannin.

PRODUCER

Christian Moreau

Domaine Christian Moreau Pere et Fils traces its roots to the early 19th century, when Jean Joseph Moreau founded a wine merchant company in Chablis. In the 1980s the family sold the business, but in 2002 the family bought it back. Today Fabien Moreau, who earned a degree in winemaking in Dijon and worked in winemaking in New Zealand before returning to Burgundy, is Managing Director and head winemaker at the Domaine. The domaine has 30 acres in Chablis, including Grand Crus in Les Clos des Hospices, a monopole, Les Clos, Valmur, Vaudesir and Blanchot. Wine Advocate has complimented the domaine and called it a Chablis “success story.” Wine Advocate calls the domaine “the poster children for a new Chablis quality consciousness…”

France, Burgundy, Chablis, Les Clos

Les Clos is a 61-acre Grand Cru vineyard in the appellation of Chablis, at the northwestern tip of Burgundy. With rocky soil, good drainage, and a southerly orientation, the vineyard is generally the most acclaimed of the Chablis Grand Crus. The principal landholders are Fevre with 10.38 acres; J. Moreau, with 9.01 acres; and C. Moreau, with 9 acres. Other notable producers with parcels in Les Clos are Francois Raveneau, Louis Pinson, Joseph Drouhin and Rene Dauvissat. Like all the Chablis vineyards, it is planted exclusively to Chardonnay.

TYPE

White Wine, Chardonnay, Chablis Grand Cru

This white variety originated in Burgundy, but is now grown around the world. Its flexibility to thrive in many regions translates to wide flavor profile in the market. Chardonnay is commonly used in making Champagne and sparkling wines.
