Bodegas Juan Matias Torres Perez is owned and operated by Juan Matias Torres Perez, a fifth generation grape grower. His family’s five acres of vineyards are located in Fuencaliente, on the southern tip of La Palma, one of the Canary Islands located between Spain and Morocco. Although the family has been growing since the mid-19th century, it wasn’t until 1999 that Juan Matias began bottling under the family name. Before that the wines were sold in bulk to local restaurants or consumed by the family. The island’s volcanic soil grows indigenous grapes, though in recent years better known varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon have also been grown. Bodegas Juan Matias Torres Perez produces red, white and rose wines from such native grapes as the white grape Listan and the red grape Tinto Negramoll, which is also known as Tinta Negra Mole. It is used for Madeira and table wine.
