RATINGS

93+ Stephen Tanzer

Deep, complex nose dominated by raspberry and spices. Creamy and concentrated, even voluptuous...with the whole-cluster vinification energizing the very dense middle palate and accentuating the wine's structure. The tannins reach the front teeth on the very long whiplash of a finish.

...notably ripe aromas of cassis and black raspberry liqueur-like scents... The very seductive, concentrated, suave and mouth coating flavors possess both excellent volume and solid mid-palate concentration before terminating in a balanced and lingering finale.

17Jancis Robinson

Very sweet indeed...some purity and integrity. Very concentrated and firm with polished tannins. Some real depth of flavour to this. A certain sap and savour. Neat with medium length. Lots of pleasure here.

PRODUCER

Domaine J. Confuron-Cotetidot

Domaine J. Confuron Cotetidot is owned and operated by the Confuron family, which has been making wine in Vosne-Romanée since the 17th century. The family is so famous and established in the region that there is a Pinot Noir grape clone named after them, Pinot Confuron. The estate’s 30 acres of vineyards include legendary Grand Cru, Premier Cru and villages parcels, none of which has ever been treated with pesticides or herbicides. Long before biodynamic farming became a movement, the Confurons were farming organically. Brothers Yves and Jean-Pierre run the estate today, with help from their parents. The domaine is known for whole cluster fermentation and a deep, dark, classically concentrated style that is considered by Burgundy aficionados to be distinctly old school, and highly impressive.

REGION

France, Burgundy, Côte d'Or, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanee, Les Suchots

Les Suchots is a 33-acre Premier Cru in Vosne-Romanee, in Burgundy’s Cote de Nuits. The vineyard is at the same elevation as Romanee-Saint-Vivant. Its neighbors are Romanee-Saint-Vivant and Richebourg on the south and Les Echezeaux to the north.

TYPE

Red Wine, Pinot Noir, 1er (Premier) Cru

This red wine is relatively light and can pair with a wide variety of foods. The grape prefers cooler climates and the wine is most often associated with Burgundy, Champagne and the U.S. west coast. Regional differences make it nearly as fickle as it is flexible.
