Abundant, profound nose with muscovado, prune and pear aroma, plus an air of old libraries and mothballs. Stunning sweetness with sharp acidity and glossy body. Long, smoky finish with a burnt-sugar aftertaste.
Royal Tokaji was founded in Hungary in 1990 following the opening of Eastern Europe to Western business. Hugh Johnson, the English wine writer, is the founding shareholder and the idea behind the company was to revive the tradition of the sweet white wines that were once one of the glories of Eastern European winemaking. Today the company’s portfolio includes dry white wine, though Royal Tokaji is known primarily for its sweet wines.
