La Cave Du Vin Blanc De Morgex Et De La Salle

La Cave du Vin Blanc de Morgex et de La Salle is a cooperative established in 1983 in the Vallee d’Aoste. The municipalities of Morgex and La Salle are in the alpine regions of northern Italy near the border with France, and the idea behind the cooperative was to help local vineyard owners find a reliable market for the grapes. Nearly 90 grape growers belong to the cooperative and the most commonly grown grape is the Prié Blanc, an indigenous grape also grown in parts of Switzerland. The vineyards that make up the cooperative are also notable for their altitude, which is on average about 4,000 feet above sea level. In order to protect the grapes from the severe weather that often occurs at that high altitude, local growers have traditionally surrounded their vineyards with stone walls that help protect the vines from winds. The estate makes several wines and sparkling wines.
