RATINGS

94Wine Spectator

Nice dichotomy of subtlety and power. Medium-bodied, with mint, vanilla bean and mineral character. Most impressive for the intensity on the palate and the finish--it vibrates with energy.

94+ Stephen Tanzer

Smoky, deep nose combines roasted pit fruits, gunflint, earth and herbs. Hugely rich and robust, with compelling, mouthfilling sweetness; flavors of peach, pear and fresh herbs

94Burghound.com

This remains wonderfully fresh with the trademark mint/menthol character that seems to be present with so many Ramonet wines. There is also ample spice with good ripeness levels...followed by dense, concentrated, opulent flavors...

PRODUCER

Domaine Ramonet

Domaine Ramonet is a 44-acre estate in Chassagne-Montrachet, in Burgundy’s Cote de Beaune, and it is considered one of the very finest producers of Chardonnay. Some collectors would say it is unequivocally the finest producer of Chardonnay in the world. The domain was founded by Pierre Ramonet in the 1930s and his grandsons Noel and Jean-Claude run it today. The estate owns Grand Cru parcels in Le Montrachet, Batard-Montrachet and Bienvenues-Batard-Montrachet. Domaine Ramonet also produces highly regarded Premier Cru Chardonnays, and several red wines, including a Premier Cru Chassagne Montrachet Clos de la Boudriotte. Clive Coates has noted that “the beauty of Ramonet wines is that they are totally individual; more Ramonet than Chassagne. The work is done by instinct, not by the book.”

REGION

France, Burgundy, Côte d'Or, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet

Batard-Montrachet is one of the four great Grand Cru Chardonnay vineyards in the appellation of Puligny-Montrachet, in Burgundy. Like its neighbor Le Montrachet, Batard-Montrachet also lies partly in the Chassagne-Montrachet appellation just to the south of Puligny-Montrachet. At 30 acres, Batard-Montrachet is the largest of four Grand Crus and it is divided into nearly 30 individually owned parcels. Located just to the east of Le Montrachet, the soil of Batard-Montrachet is deeper and less thin. The largest landholders are Leflaive, with 4.5 acres; Ramonet, 1.2 acres; Bachelet-Ramonet, 1.4 acres; and Paul Pernot, 1.5 acres.

TYPE

White Wine, Chardonnay, Grand Cru

This white variety originated in Burgundy, but is now grown around the world. Its flexibility to thrive in many regions translates to wide flavor profile in the market. Chardonnay is commonly used in making Champagne and sparkling wines.
