RATINGS

97Wine Enthusiast

...has so much weight and concentration, and it bears red fruit flavors and bright acids.

19Jancis Robinson

...So much cherry fruit! Explosive! Like fruit compote! Rich and complete and already gorgeous. Pure pleasure! Reverberant. The flavours of a Germanic breakfast somehow – smoked meat? And dark fruit flavours. Great precision.

94-96The Wine Advocate

...There is more than enough fruit to fill out the wine’s broad shoulders and balance the big tannins. A clean vein of minerality gives the wine its center and focus. A final blast of blue and black fruit stains the palate on the finish...

93-96Stephen Tanzer

Highly complex aromas of wild red berries, rose petal, mocha, clove and black pepper. Fat and lush but with a peppery component energizing the mid-palate. Impressively dense and fine-grained, with noble tannins and outstanding length.

92-95Burghound.com

...The rich and equally pure tautly muscular flavors exude a fine minerality and I especially like the sense of underlying tension as it imparts energy to the balanced, focused and strikingly long finish...

REGION

France, Burgundy, Côte d'Or, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny, Bonnes Mares

Bonnes Mares is a Grand Cru vineyard that is located in two appellations Chambolle-Musigny and the neighboring Morey St.-Denis. Of the total of 37.6 acres, 33.75 are in Chambolle, and just under 4 acres are in Morey St. Denis. The history of the vineyard is complicated and today there are some 35 landholders. The vineyard lies between 265 and 300 meters. The soil is heavier toward Morey St.-Denis, which is the northern end of the vineyard, and lighter as the vineyard enters the Chambolle-Musigny commune. Principal landholders are De Vogue, 6.7 acres; Drouhin-Laroze, 3.7 acres; and Georges Roumier, 3.5 acres.

TYPE

Red Wine, Pinot Noir, Grand Cru

This red wine is relatively light and can pair with a wide variety of foods. The grape prefers cooler climates and the wine is most often associated with Burgundy, Champagne and the U.S. west coast. Regional differences make it nearly as fickle as it is flexible.
