RATINGS

94The Wine Advocate

...exotic, bitter-sweet orchid perfume; grapefruit; white peach; smoky black tea; and crushed stone, leading to one of those truly vibratory interchanges of citrus, pit fruit, and diverse mineral manifestations...

94+ Stephen Tanzer

Lovely perfumed lift to the aromas of lemon and crushed rock. The palate offers outstanding drive and energy, with compelling inner-mouth perfume to the rocky and honeyed flavors. Offers an uncanny palate-saturating texture...

93Burghound.com

...ultra elegant citrus-infused nose of mostly floral notes that merges into spicy, pure and strikingly detailed flavors that possess excellent size and weight plus plenty of dry extract on the punchy, long and serious finish...

92Wine Spectator

Bright and elegant, with peach, apple, lime and spice flavors woven into the gossamer frame. This is subtle and long, with fruit, mineral and oak influences converging on the aftertaste.

18Jancis Robinson

...Much more smoky but also a lovely creamy citrus. Very spicy on the palate. Great purity and length and that same minerality and directness underneath that characterises the Colin-Morey wines.

PRODUCER

Pierre Yves Colin-Morey

Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey is a 13.5-acre domaine in Chassagne-Montrachet. Pierre-Yves is the eldest son of Marc Colin, who 40 years ago started the domaine that would become Marc Colin et Fils. Today Marc Colin et Fils is run by Marc’s two younger sons. Pierre-Yves was winemaker for Marc Colin et Fils from 1995 to 2005, but in 2006 Pierre-Yves struck out on his own with a small domaine and a micro-negociant business. He has expanded his properties since then and now his grapes are about 70% from his own parcels and 30% purchased. Colin-Morey produces about 6,000 cases a year and has Premier Cru and Grand Cru vineyards in Meursault, Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet. Pierre-Yves makes mostly white wines, from Grand Crus to villages appellations. But it is his Premier Cru whites that have most impressed reviewers and collectors. Clive Coates notes that Pierre-Yves makes wine that “is pure, elegant and precise. He is a name to watch.”

REGION

France, Burgundy, Côte d'Or, Côte de Beaune, Meursault, Les Perrieres

Les Perrieres is 34-acre Premier Cru vineyard in Meursault, in Burgundy’s Cote de Beaune. The vineyard includes several sub parcels. They are the 2.4-acre monopole Clos des Perrieres, which belongs to Domaine Albert Grivault, and Les Perrieres Dessous. Because Les Perrieres is in southern Meursault next to Puligny, the Les Perrieres Meursaults are considered to have more minerality than other Meursaults. Burgundy writer Clive Coates has noted that “Perrieres is perhaps the most elegant and persistent of the premier crus. At its best, it is positively brilliant…” Since Meursault lacks a Grand Cru, Meursault’s reputation for excellence is based on the Premier Crus, particularly the whites.

TYPE

White Wine, Chardonnay, 1er (Premier) Cru

This white variety originated in Burgundy, but is now grown around the world. Its flexibility to thrive in many regions translates to wide flavor profile in the market. Chardonnay is commonly used in making Champagne and sparkling wines.
