RATINGS

A blockbuster Syrah, with all the game, berry, fireplace and light earth character. Clean and impressive. Full and chewy. There's lots of wood, but the fruit supports it...

REGION

Italy, Tuscany, Vernaccia di San Gimignano

Vernaccia di San Gimignano is a DOCG centered around the walled, highly picturesque, medieval hilltop town of San Gimignano, south Florence. Vernaccia di San Gimignano was the first DOC in Italy, having received that status in 1966. It was elevated to a DOCG in 1996. The appellation only applies to white wines made primarily from the indigenous white grape called the Vernaccia di San Gimignano. Because of the relative small size of the appellation, Vernaccia di San Gimignano is not well known outside of Italy. At their best the wines are golden, medium-bodied and aromatic. By law up to 10% Chardonnay can be added to Vernaccia di San Gimignano.

TYPE

Red Wine, Syrah (Shiraz)

This grape is grown in milder climates and produces a medium-to full-bodied wine. It is also known as Shiraz, but should not be confused with Petit Sirah, which was developed by crossing Syrah with Peloursin.
