RATINGS

93Wine Spectator

Hyperripe, but racy and beautifully defined, with amazing drive thanks to the strong graphite spine that holds the fig paste, hoisin sauce, black tea and mulled currant fruit flavors.

91Stephen Tanzer

...Really showing its syrah element today, and more powerful than it was from barrel, displaying deep dark fruit flavors and suave floral and mineral qualities. Finishes with very good clarity and chewy, sappy persistence...

90-92Robert M. Parker Jr.

...concentrated, elegant wine exhibiting notes of tapenade, kirsch, and soil undertones.

17.5Jancis Robinson

...Very bright, almost slightly raisiny ripe fruit (NB high proportion of Grenache) but not overripe. Griottes compote. Cool and dry and refined on the palate...

REGION

France, Rhône Valley, Southern Rhône, Vacqueyras

Vacqueyras AOC is in the Southern Rhone Valley and runs along the banks of the Ouvèze River. It received its appellation status 1990, having been part of the AOC Côtes du Rhone appellation since 1937. Some 97 percent of the wine made in Vacqueyras is red, and like its neighbor to the north, Gigondas, Vacqueyras is known for its powerful wines. There are 3,200 vineyard acres planted to Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre, Cinsault, Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette and Bourbolenc. Vacqueyras reds are dark, spicy, tannic and considered good for aging.
