RATINGS

95Wine Spectator

Lime, butter and toast are the flavors, with a touch of the sea. Oak spice and mineral themes continue on the aftertaste.

93The Wine Advocate

Rich and silken-textured on the palate, yet preserving the same sense of energy and fresh-fruit brightness that made his Demoiselles so convincing, this sets up a finishing oscillation of pit fruits, citrus, and minerals that will lift your spirits even as it seems to eventually waft away.

93Burghound.com

A strikingly interesting nose features notes of menthol, citrus blossom, anise and wet stone that are also reflected by the impressively rich and full-bodied flavors that possess ample power and punch on the textured and palate staining finish that does a slow build from the mid-palate to the explosive finish. This is extremely good.

92+ Stephen Tanzer

Apple and stone on the nose, plus a whiff of resin. Supple, broad and sweet, with enticing ripe apple and pear flavors brightened by harmonious acidity. A rather powerful and penetrating wine that's nicely balanced from the outset...

PRODUCER

Philippe Colin

Philippe Colin comes from a large, extended and much-admired winemaking family in Chassagne-Montrachet, in Burgundy’s Cote de Beaune. Philippe is the younger son of Michel Colin, and Philippe’s first vintage was in 2004. He has nearly 17 acres of vineyards, including white Premier Cru parcels in Chassagne-Montrachet and Saint-Aubin. He also has red Premier Cru parcels in Chassagne-Montrachet Morgeot and Santenay Les Gravieres.

REGION

France, Burgundy, Côte d'Or, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet, Chevalier-Montrachet

Chevalier-Montrachet is one of the four justly famous Grand Cru Chardonnay vineyards in Puligny-Montrachet appellation in Burgundy. The 18-acre vineyard is located up the slope from Le Montrachet and shares Le Montrachet’s excellent southern exposure, though Chevalier-Montrachet’s soil is considerably thinner and more rocky. Burgundy writer Clive Coates has noted that Chevalier-Montrachet is “full, firm” and has “a great deal of depth and elegance.” The largest landholders are Bouchard Pere et Fils, 7.5 acres; Leflaive, 4 acres; and Louis Jadot, 1.5 acres.

TYPE

White Wine, Chardonnay, Grand Cru

This white variety originated in Burgundy, but is now grown around the world. Its flexibility to thrive in many regions translates to wide flavor profile in the market. Chardonnay is commonly used in making Champagne and sparkling wines.
