Estimate
Solid garnet core with a dark, ruby rim; a pronounced aroma of anise with cooked sesame seeds, also leather, earth and pipe tobacco; a palate full of powerful, structured, masculine flavors. Not a shy wine at all, nice tannins and acidity
Cuvee Nicolas Rolin is made from grapes from five Beaune premier cru vineyards, which are Les Cent Vignes, En Genet, Les Bressandes, Les Greves and Les Teurons. The oldest vines in the vineyards are in Les Cent Vignes, planted between 1953 and 1975, and Les Teurons, planted from 1950 to 1955. The Cuvee is named for Nicolas Rolin, Chancellor of the Duke of Burgundy in the mid-15th century. Rolin founded the Hotel-Dieu, a hospital for the poor. Christie's Auction Catalog: "Purple-ruby of medium depth, the nose being very fresh, brambly and new-oak spicy.. fleshy and intense, with concentrated fruitiness and rich tannins."
