RATINGS

93Wine Spectator

A ripe, juicy style, with bright, vivid red cherry, plum and wild berry scents that are pure and polished. Full-bodied, ending with a long, lingering finish. Tempranillo, Grenache, Carignane, Graciano and Petite Sirah.

91Robert M. Parker Jr.

A very interesting wine, it offers notes of blueberries, raspberries, licorice, graphite, tobacco leaf and spice. Medium-bodied with loads of fruit intensity, purity, personality and soul...

91Stephen Tanzer

Black cherry and licorice aromas show a porty aspect. Then big, lush and mouthfilling, with sweet flavors of crushed cassis and black cherry leavened by sound acid cut. A broad and sappy fruit bomb, finishing with substantial tannins...

PRODUCER

Mark Herold Wines

Mark Herold earned a Ph.D. in Ecology at U.C. Davis before starting his career in winemaking. He was a research enologist at Joseph Phelps Vineyards then in 1998 started making Merus, a cult Cabernet Sauvignon, in his Napa garage. Since then he’s been a consultant to wineries throughout Napa Valley and he has continued to make wines under his own name. He is best known for his full-throttle Cabernet Sauvignons, though he also makes blends and whites that are unusual for California. Herold’s non-Cabs include Tempranillo, Grenache, Carignan, Albarino and Verdejo blends. His Cabs, and some other wines, typically earn ratings in the low- to mid-90s from reviewers.
