92The Wine Advocate

The fresh earth, mineral, and flower-scented 2000 Puligny-Montrachet La Truffiere is medium-bodied and satin-textured. It proposes a broad, stone, mineral, spice, and pear-flavored personality that is feminine yet muscular.

92Stephen Tanzer

Very complex nose combines pit fruits, flowers, stones, menthol and iodine. Densely packed, suave and lively, with brisk lemony acidity contributing to the impression of purity.

PRODUCER

Bernard Morey

Domaine Bernard Morey is in Chassagne-Montrachet, Burgundy. The 21-acre estate is owned and operated by Bernard Morey and his two sons, Thomas and Vincent. With the exception of a small parcel of Batard-Montrachet, most of the domain’s vineyards are premier cru. The estate produces both red and white wines that please many Burgundy wine experts. Robert M. Parker Jr. has written that “I would be happy to drink any wine from this domaine. Bernard Morey has always been one of my favorite producers, fashioning upfront, juicy, succulently-styled wines…”

REGION

France, Burgundy, Côte d'Or, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet, La Truffiere

La Truffiere is a 7.2-acre acre Premier Cru vineyard in the Puligny-Montrachet appellation of Burgundy’s Cote de Beaune. It is up the slope and west of many of the appellation’s Premier Cru vineyards, and in fact wasn’t farmed as a vineyard until the mid-20th century, when the land was cleared of rocks and scrub. The elevation is 300 to 380 meters.

TYPE

White Wine, Chardonnay, 1er (Premier) Cru

This white variety originated in Burgundy, but is now grown around the world. Its flexibility to thrive in many regions translates to wide flavor profile in the market. Chardonnay is commonly used in making Champagne and sparkling wines.
