2004 Vilafonte M Series Red

Vilafonté is in the Paarl region of Stellenbosch, one of South Africa’s most prestigious winemaking areas. It was founded as a partnership pulling in owners with winemaking expertise from Napa Valley and South Africa. Co-founder Mike Ratcliffe comes from a South African winery family, and he has spent his life in the wine business. Zelma Long, a partner and winemaker, was once head winemaker for Robert Mondavi. Phil Freese is a partner and the viticulture specialist, with decades of Napa Valley experience including his work for Opus One, where he planted the estate’s first vineyards. Vilafonté’s 40 vineyard acres are planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Malbec. Vilafonté makes only two wines, both red blends. Series M is Malbec and Merlot; Series C is Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.
