RATINGS

97James Suckling

Lush black- and blue-fruit aromas with underlying notes of licorice, crushed stones, bitter chocolate and pencil. The palate is seamlessly integrated with firmly framed tannins and bright acidity, leading into a mineral, earth-driven finish.

96+ The Wine Advocate

...dark, brooding, savory effort, its cassis fruit underscored by hints of crushed stone and pencil shavings. It's medium to full-bodied, tight and focused, framed by soft, dusty tannins and finishing long and elegant.

96+ Jeb Dunnuck

It has a Saint-Julien-like perfume of pure cassis and blue fruits, as well as spring flowers, leafy herbs, and crushed stone. It's beautifully balanced, medium to full-bodied, has integrated acidity, and a great finish.

95+ Vinous / IWC

Succulent red-toned fruit, blood orange, spice, new leather and pomegranate soar out of the glass.

93Wine Spectator

...slow-moving core of steeped black currant and blackberry fruit flavors set against a backdrop of walnut husk, dark tobacco and roasted alder...hint of cast iron lurks on the finish...

18+ Jancis Robinson

Super-deep spice and ripe enticing fruit. Nice bouncy energy to the acidity and fine firm tannin. Floral violet lift. Juicy and wonderful. Incredibly long.

PRODUCER

Favia

Favia Erickson Winegrowers was started in 2003 by Annie Favia and Andy Erickson. The couple are both Napa Valley winemakers with formidable resumes. Favia worked for John Kongsgaard and David Abreu, among others, and Erickson has been a winemaker at Screaming Eagle, Dalla Valle and other wineries. The couple owns vineyards but also sources grapes from Amador County and Napa Valley. They make Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, as well as Viognier and Rhone-style blends. The wines are generally available only via Favia’s mailing list.

REGION

United States, California, Napa Valley, Coombsville

Coombsville AVA is one of Napa Valley’s newer appellations, having received its official designation only in 2011. Tucked just to the northeast of Los Carneros and a few minutes’ drive east of downtown Napa, the Coombsville appellation is relatively large at a total of 11,000 acres. The elevation varies from 100 to 1,000 feet, and the climate is moderated by marine breezes from the San Pablo Bay. The main grape varieties here are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Syrah and Pinot Noir.

TYPE

Red Wine, Cabernet Sauvignon

One of the most widely grown grape varieties, it can be found in nearly every wine growing region. A cross between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc. It’s a hardy vine that produces a full-bodied wine with high tannins and great aging potential.
