RATINGS

19.5Jancis Robinson

The ripe fruit of local orchards growing along the banks of a crystal-clear stream flowing over rocks and stones in the pure air of a cool Indian summer morning... Let’s just say: purity, minerality, vibrancy, complexity.

97+ The Wine Advocate

...cool and smoky on the nose--very clear and aristocratic, like always--with lemon and fine stony flavors, but also hints of pineapple, herbs and flint stones. What purity, depth and finesse there is here! On the palate, this is a full-bodied, rich, intense and elegant Riesling...

96Vinous / IWC

...buddleia, violets and thyme; white peach, mirabelle and red currant, with intimations of the fruit pit piquancy and crushed stone anticipating the glowing sharpness and interaction of fruit and stone that ensue on a silken palate. The superbly-sustained finish displays striking transparency to undulating, interactive layers of floral, coolingly green herbal, fruity and crystalline mineral elements.

PRODUCER

H. Donnhoff

H. Donnhoff is a 32-acre estate in Oberhausen/Nahe, in southwestern Germany. The appellation is the very small Nahe appellation, and Helmut Donnhoff has been making noteworthy wines on his steep hillside vineyards there for more than 30 years. The estate itself has been in his family since 1750. Vineyards are planted to 75% Riesling, 25% Weissburgunder and Granburgunder. About 7,000 bottles are produced annually. Wine writer Hugh Johnson described Helmut Donnhoff as having “a fanatical commitment to quality, and a remarkable natural talent for winemaking.” The estate’s Rieslings are considered among the world’s best.
