RATINGS

92The Wine Advocate

Cherry, red raspberry, and grenadine in the nose are alluringly entwined with bittersweet, iris-like floral perfume and tinged with flattering, oak-enhanced nutmeg and vanilla.

92Stephen Tanzer

Pretty, nuanced aromas of red fruits, flowers and tobacco. Wonderfully tactile and juicy, with terrific acid cut giving grip to the sappy red berry and saline flavors. Finishes with sweet tannins and lovely lingering perfume.

18.5Jancis Robinson

..More obviously oak spice at first, a touch of vanilla and sweet strawberry fruit. Firm but infinitely fine tannins, leaving a tangy note on the tip of your tongue. Very focused yet still finely fragrant, and a little peppery...

92Burghound.com

...range of black and blue fruit aromas nuanced by hints of earth and a touch of the sauvage that is also picked up by the rich, round and notably pure flavors that are more elegant than usual...

REGION

France, Burgundy, Côte d'Or, Côte de Nuits, Flagey-Echezeaux, Echezeaux

Echezeaux is a 93-acre Grand Cru vineyard on the southern edge of the Cote de Nuits. It up the slope from Clos de Vougeot and Grands Echezeaux and is one of the largest grand crus in Burgundy. The vineyard varies in elevation from 250 to 300 meters, and the terroir includes significant clay as well as thin, rocky soil. The largest proprietors are Domaine de la Romanee Conti, with 11.68 acres; Mongeard-Mugneret with 6.25 acres, and Emmanuel-Rouget, with 3.58 acres. Echezeaux produces red wine.

TYPE

Red Wine, Pinot Noir, Grand Cru

This red wine is relatively light and can pair with a wide variety of foods. The grape prefers cooler climates and the wine is most often associated with Burgundy, Champagne and the U.S. west coast. Regional differences make it nearly as fickle as it is flexible.
