Moody and haunting black tea, black pepper and beef jus aromas, then flavors of grilled plums, dark cherries, black mushrooms, smoke and peat. So singular and distinctive, with an earthy personality. Medium- to full-bodied with moderate tannins and great depth and length.

...florist shop bouquet, mixing shavings of blood orange with sweet lavender, incense and spice. Lifted and pure in form and feel, it offers zesty acidity and crisp red berry fruit, energized by a core of stimulating acidity. Crunchy mineral tones cascade across the palate as a hint of sour citrus combines with tart cherry through the long, nearly electric finale.

Antica Terra is an 11-acre estate in the Eola-Amity Hills of Willamette Valley. It was founded by John Mavredakis, Scott Adelson and Michael Kramer, who in 2005 convinced winemaker Maggie Harrison to join them. Harrison had been assistant winemaker to legendary Manfred Krankl of Sine Qua Non. Antica Terra makes Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Rose.

United States, Oregon, Willamette Valley

Willamette Valley AVA was established in 1983, and it is the oldest appellation in Oregon. Oregon’s modern wine industry began in the Willamette Valley in the 1960s when artists, vagabond winemakers, and U.C. Davis oenology graduates looking for new territory started their own, small, off-the-grid wineries. The appellation is the state’s largest, and it extends 175 miles from Columbia River on the Washington/Oregon border to just south of Eugene, near central Oregon. The Willamette River runs through the area, helping to give the appellation a mild year-round climate. There are six smaller sub-appellations within this AVA, but altogether the Willamette Valley has the largest concentration of wineries in Oregon, as well as the majority of the state’s most famous producers. Pinot Noir is king here, followed by Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Riesling. To most admirers of Oregon Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley offers the most distinctive wine choices in the state.
