RATINGS

97Jeb Dunnuck

...terrific nose of mulled black cherries, scorched earth, toasted spice, and savory herbs...tons of salty, mineral nuances on the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, has perfectly integrated acidity, ripe tannins, and outstanding length.

96James Suckling

Tight, very focused and structured, with forest-floor, cherry, dried-strawberry and spice character. Medium-bodied with a solid core of fruit.

95The Wine Advocate

...complex aromas of raspberry, orange peel, licorice, oolong tea leaves and flinty streaks...medium-bodied palate has a harmonious frame of powdery tannins and vibrant acidity, concentrated, nuanced flavors and a very long finish.

95Vinous / IWC

Blue/purplish fruit, lavender, licorice, menthol, spice and chocolate are some of the myriad notes that flesh out as this towering, plush Pinot show off its personality.

92Wine Spectator

Alluring, with a mix of rooibos tea, sandalwood and savory notes out front, followed by gently mulled raspberry and blood orange fruit flavors. Shows a nice racy feel through the finish as everything knits together, ending with a subtle sassafras echo.

REGION

United States, California, Central Coast

Central Coast AVA is a huge wine producing area that extends from Santa Barbara County in the south to San Francisco in the north. With more than 100,000 vineyard acres, it includes parts of six counties near the Pacific Ocean. Nearly 20 smaller AVAs lie within the Central Coast AVA. Central Coast earned appellation status in 1985. Included in the appellation are parts of the counties of Contra Costa, Monterey, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz. Nearly every grape varietal grown in California is grown somewhere in the Central Coast AVA, though Chardonnay accounts for nearly 50% of the entire wine grape crop.

TYPE

Red Wine, Pinot Noir

This red wine is relatively light and can pair with a wide variety of foods. The grape prefers cooler climates and the wine is most often associated with Burgundy, Champagne and the U.S. west coast. Regional differences make it nearly as fickle as it is flexible.
