RATINGS

98James Suckling

This is so open with black cherry aromas jumping out of the glass with orange peel coming out. Black ink. Iodine. Oyster shell. Asian plum sauce. Mille-feuille. Medium to full body. Compacted palate with layers of fine tannins.

96+ The Wine Advocate

From a site close to Occidental, just five miles from the ocean... ...kicks off with notes of alpine strawberries and lovely, almost garrigue-like notions. It's delicate yet also the most generous and full-bodied of the three Pinot Noirs, with voluminous, silky tannins and terrific length and elegance married to a tense, wiry structure and intense fruit. Wow.

96Vinous / IWC

...darkest and most potent of the Pinots. It offers up copious dark cherry, plum, mocha, new leather and licorice. The 2021 possesses tremendous breadth and resonance. There's plenty of power, but also the vibrancy that is increasingly a signature here. This site, planted with 8 different clones of Pinot Noir , yields a wine of notable textural intensity.

REGION

United States, California, Sonoma, Sonoma Coast

Sonoma Coast AVA runs from San Pablo Bay in the south to Mendocino County in the north. It includes 7,000 vineyard acres and earned AVA status in 1987. Its proximity to the Pacific Ocean means it gets double the rainfall of nearby inland appellations and the ocean gives the appellation a relatively cool climate. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir can thrive in these conditions, and there are numerous producers making critically acclaimed Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

TYPE

Red Wine, Pinot Noir

This red wine is relatively light and can pair with a wide variety of foods. The grape prefers cooler climates and the wine is most often associated with Burgundy, Champagne and the U.S. west coast. Regional differences make it nearly as fickle as it is flexible.
