RATINGS

92Vinous / IWC

Assertively perfumed bouquet brings forth cherry pit, black raspberry, potpourri and anise, along with mineral and cracked pepper accents. Sappy, tightly focused red and dark berry flavors of great depth and energy, with a floral pastille quality building in the glass. Finishes spicy and long, with persistent mineral and floral notes.

91The Wine Advocate

...scents of raspberry, undergrowth and black tea...palate is medium-bodied with a crisp, saline entry. It is very pure and represents a fine marriage between crisp acidity and supple red fruit. It is harmonious and focused with lovely dark cherry, raspberry and spice on the finish.

17Jancis Robinson

Deeply aromatic, wild berries. The tannins are fluid across the palate, and through the luscious dark shiny fruit is a determined streak of minerality and a core of energising acidity. It packs an amazing depth of flavour and presence for the light alcohol. Long, lightly spiced finish.

REGION

Spain, Galicia, Ribeira Sacra

Galicia is in the far northwestern corner of Spain, just above Portugal on the Atlantic coast. It includes four provinces and five appellations. The appellations are Monterrei, Rías Baixas, Ribeira Sacra, Ribeiro and Valdeorras. In recent years the popularity of Albariño from Rías Baixas has brought new renown to the area, though it has been a wine producing region since at least the 14th century, when it was an exporter of grape vine cuttings. The coastal climate is wet, with an average of about 50 inches of rainfall annually, and it receives many hours of sun. Besides the Albariño grape, Galicia grows the white wine grapes Loureira, Caiño Blanca, Torrontés, Treixadura and Godello, another recently popular grape and wine. Red wines of the region are light and generally made of Mencia. Rías Baixes is the star of the region, with Albariño accounting for 90% of its production.
