RATINGS

98Wine Enthusiast

...offers yeasty baguette, blueberry and fresh acidity around an ample length of texture and grit. Crushed rock, clove and vanilla complement an enduring freshness of pine and forest floor.

96James Suckling

Blackberry, dark-chocolate and black-olive aromas follow through to a full body with firm, chewy tannins that are polished and beautiful.

95Vinous / IWC

Lavender, spice, menthol, plum and crème de cassis are all finely knit in a Cabernet that delivers power and elegance.

94Jeb Dunnuck

...plenty of darker currant and blackberry fruits as well as some classic brambly herbs, crushed stone, and tobacco like-aromatics. Some rock-solid mountain tannins show on the palate, and it's medium to full-bodied, has good mid-palate depth, and solid length on the finish.

93The Wine Advocate

...leaps with vibrant notes of black cherries, mulberries and baked blackcurrants, plus hints of spice cake and potpourri. Medium to full-bodied with bags of juicy black fruits, ripe, grainy tannins and just enough freshness, it finishes with great length and a spicy lift.

92Wine Spectator

Dense but with enough juiciness to match, this sports some hefty black currant and blackberry compote notes laced with bittersweet cocoa and espresso crema, while singed alder and warm humus score the finish.

REGION

United States, California, Napa Valley, Mount Veeder

Mount Veeder AVA was established in 1993, though its origins as a wine producing district date to the 19th century. A German Presbyterian pastor named Peter Veeder was one of the first landowners in the area, and by 1864 one of his neighbors, a German sea captain named Stelham Wing, was producing wine commercially. The area continued to attract German agricultural entrepreneurs, some of whom established the estate that would later become the Christian Brothers Mont La Salle winery. Today the AVA includes about 1,000 acres of vineyards, most of them at relatively high altitudes. The Mayacamas vineyard, for instance, is at 2,400 feet. Cabernet Sauvignon is the most frequently planted grape, followed by Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.

TYPE

Red Wine, Cabernet Sauvignon

One of the most widely grown grape varieties, it can be found in nearly every wine growing region. A cross between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc. It’s a hardy vine that produces a full-bodied wine with high tannins and great aging potential.
