RATINGS

94James Suckling

Sweet berries, dried flowers, fresh mushrooms and some currants on the nose, following through to a medium to full body with fine, creamy tannins that give the wine form and tension. Juicy and savory fruit.

92The Wine Advocate

...aromatic and peachy...combines ripeness with elegance and is fluid and tasty, with very fine tannins, a medium body.

92Wine Spectator

Well-integrated, with fine-grained flavors of dark fruit and savory spice that show accents of olive and dried tarragon. The ripe finish is filled with notes of dark chocolate and plenty of toastiness.

92Vinous / IWC

...warm-weather profile of black currant and blackberry aromas, plus hints of herb, flowers and hawthorn. Terse in the mouth with a medium volume and polished tannins, the expression is lovely and juice appears at the back of the mouth.

90Wine Enthusiast

Green bell pepper, licorice, vanilla and ripe cherry are part of the bouquet...medium bodied and has soft tannins. It delivers delicious ripe red fruit and toasted-oak flavors with a touch of peppercorn, leading to a medium-long finish with black fruit notes in the aftertaste.

16.5Jancis Robinson

Pungent, lifted nose with the lightest of green notes and then a sweet follow-through.

REGION

Chile, Central Valley Region, Cachapoal Valley

Chile has produced wine since the 16th century, when Spanish conquistadores brought grape vines and established vineyards. Sweet wines were favored until well into the 19th century, when French immigrants began making dry wines with a decidedly French character. Chile’s long, narrow, coastal geography has made the transportation of wines challenging over the centuries, though today it is a major exporter. To the west is the Pacific Ocean, to the east are the Andes. But the isolation has also meant that Chile vineyards have so far never been attacked by phylloxera, meaning that unlike viticulturalists in many other part of the world, Chilean vineyards can be planted with original rootstock, saving producers the laborious job of grafting vines onto phylloxera-resistant rootstocks. Chile started an appellation system in 1994, and there are five regions each with numerous sub-regions. Chile has attracted investment from European and American producers, including Robert Mondavi Winery, Kendall-Jackson, Lafite-Rothschild and Miguel Torres.
