RATINGS

94Wine Spectator

Less marked by oak than many of its peers, this fluid white boasts peach, apple, melon, honey and mineral aromas and flavors, showing accents of pastry. Persistent and beautifully balanced, with a long, pastry- and mineral-accented finish.

94Stephen Tanzer

Very expressive aromas of pineapple, menthol, crushed stone and white flowers...

92-94The Wine Advocate

...wonderful detail here and impressive focus. The palate is crisp and taut with a killer line of acidity, just the right amount of salinity and there is impressive complexity and mineralité running all the way through to the finish.

17.5+ Jancis Robinson

Something good to chew on and excellent density without perhaps quite the lift... Sleek and mineral. Big, opulent finish.

PRODUCER

Pierre Yves Colin-Morey

Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey is a 13.5-acre domaine in Chassagne-Montrachet. Pierre-Yves is the eldest son of Marc Colin, who 40 years ago started the domaine that would become Marc Colin et Fils. Today Marc Colin et Fils is run by Marc’s two younger sons. Pierre-Yves was winemaker for Marc Colin et Fils from 1995 to 2005, but in 2006 Pierre-Yves struck out on his own with a small domaine and a micro-negociant business. He has expanded his properties since then and now his grapes are about 70% from his own parcels and 30% purchased. Colin-Morey produces about 6,000 cases a year and has Premier Cru and Grand Cru vineyards in Meursault, Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet. Pierre-Yves makes mostly white wines, from Grand Crus to villages appellations. But it is his Premier Cru whites that have most impressed reviewers and collectors. Clive Coates notes that Pierre-Yves makes wine that “is pure, elegant and precise. He is a name to watch.”

REGION

France, Burgundy, Côte d'Or, Côte de Beaune, Meursault, Les Perrieres

Les Perrieres is 34-acre Premier Cru vineyard in Meursault, in Burgundy’s Cote de Beaune. The vineyard includes several sub parcels. They are the 2.4-acre monopole Clos des Perrieres, which belongs to Domaine Albert Grivault, and Les Perrieres Dessous. Because Les Perrieres is in southern Meursault next to Puligny, the Les Perrieres Meursaults are considered to have more minerality than other Meursaults. Burgundy writer Clive Coates has noted that “Perrieres is perhaps the most elegant and persistent of the premier crus. At its best, it is positively brilliant…” Since Meursault lacks a Grand Cru, Meursault’s reputation for excellence is based on the Premier Crus, particularly the whites.

TYPE

White Wine, Chardonnay, 1er (Premier) Cru

This white variety originated in Burgundy, but is now grown around the world. Its flexibility to thrive in many regions translates to wide flavor profile in the market. Chardonnay is commonly used in making Champagne and sparkling wines.
