RATINGS

98James Suckling

Blackberry and blueberry with some dried chili and hints of pine needles. Currants... Full-bodied and very focused with tight, fine-grained tannins that frame the fruit really well. Some violets. Great length and focus. Superb.

98Jeb Dunnuck

...brilliant, full-bodied, seamless... Blackcurrants, chocolate, loamy earth, tobacco, and violet notes define the bouquet, and this beauty hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a voluptuous, layered mouthfeel, ample tannins, and a great finish.

97+ The Wine Advocate

...the nose explodes with profound cassis, black plums and blackberries scents backed up by suggestions of espresso, black olives and bay leaves. The concentrated, full-bodied palate is jam-packed by expressive black fruit preserves and savory layers, supported by a firm backbone of grainy tannins and well-knit freshness, finishing on a lingering fragrant earth note.

96Vinous / IWC

...exudes power and density from the very first taste. Inky fruit, graphite, lavender, blackberry and spice are all beautifully delineated.

95Wine Spectator

Jam-packed with bright and juicy cassis, plum preserves and raspberry reduction notes...sleek licorice and graphite notes adding support. Flashes of sweet bay leaf and violet skitter through, and there's serious coiled-up energy on the finish...

REGION

United States, California, Napa Valley, Diamond Mountain

Diamond Mountain District AVA is in the Mayacamas Mountains at the northwestern end of Napa Valley. The appellation is relatively high and the entire district is more than 400 feet above sea level. Some vineyards are as high as 2,200 feet above sea level. Because of their altitude, Diamond Mountain vineyards experience warmer days but colder nights than vineyards on the valley floor. Once volcanic soil, the terrain in the appellation has over time become less fertile, making grape growing particularly challenging. Nevertheless the district has attracted wine producers for more than a century. There are 500 vineyard acres out of a total of 5,000 acres. Among the highly regarded wineries here are Lokoya Winery, Diamond Creek Vineyards and Schramsberg Vineyards. Diamond Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc are generally firmly structured, rich and quite tannic. Chardonnay is full-bodied with apple and peach aromas and firm acidity.

TYPE

Red Wine, Cabernet Sauvignon

One of the most widely grown grape varieties, it can be found in nearly every wine growing region. A cross between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc. It’s a hardy vine that produces a full-bodied wine with high tannins and great aging potential.
