RATINGS

95The Wine Advocate

....pretty scents of wild berries, tangerine peel, conifer, rose petal and gravel dust...medium-bodied palate is silky and seamless, bursting with detailed flavors, and it offers a very long, perfumed finish.

94Vinous / IWC

Heady aromas of ripe red and blue fruits, vanilla, mocha, candied flowers and baking spices. Supple and alluringly sweet, offering juicy boysenberry, cherry cola and fruitcake flavors... Smoothly blends richness and energy and closes very long and spicy, with building tannins and lingering blue fruit and floral notes.

94James Suckling

A fluid, fleshy pinot that has such interest and approachability. Aromas and flavors of spiced cherry, roasted coffee and charcuterie flow effortlessly. Rich dark cherry and cocoa to close.

94Wine Enthusiast

...opens with appealing mixed berry flavors...tannins are supple and there are already highlights of pipe tobacco and coffee grounds.

93Wine Spectator

Polished and expressive, with vibrant raspberry, violet and brown baking spice tones that build tension toward toasty tannins.

PRODUCER

Domaine Serene

Domaine Serene is in Dayton, Oregon. The estate has numerous vineyards in several areas of the Willamette Valley, in the heart of Oregon’s Pinot Noir country. The estate was founded in 1989 by Grace and Tony Evenstad. The couple built a pharmaceutical company in Minnesota before starting their winery in Oregon. Domaine Serene is known for its single vineyard Pinot Noirs. It also produces Chardonnay.

REGION

United States, Oregon, Willamette Valley

Willamette Valley AVA was established in 1983, and it is the oldest appellation in Oregon. Oregon’s modern wine industry began in the Willamette Valley in the 1960s when artists, vagabond winemakers, and U.C. Davis oenology graduates looking for new territory started their own, small, off-the-grid wineries. The appellation is the state’s largest, and it extends 175 miles from Columbia River on the Washington/Oregon border to just south of Eugene, near central Oregon. The Willamette River runs through the area, helping to give the appellation a mild year-round climate. There are six smaller sub-appellations within this AVA, but altogether the Willamette Valley has the largest concentration of wineries in Oregon, as well as the majority of the state’s most famous producers. Pinot Noir is king here, followed by Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Riesling. To most admirers of Oregon Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley offers the most distinctive wine choices in the state.

TYPE

Red Wine, Pinot Noir

This red wine is relatively light and can pair with a wide variety of foods. The grape prefers cooler climates and the wine is most often associated with Burgundy, Champagne and the U.S. west coast. Regional differences make it nearly as fickle as it is flexible.
