RATINGS

94Jeb Dunnuck

...loads of Syrah darker berry fruits and ground pepper notes intermixed with a kiss of Zinfandel's spice, cedar, and floral notes. Rich, medium to full-bodied, with beautiful acidity and fine tannins...

93Wine Enthusiast

...divinely rich, rewarding wine, with concentrated flavors of tangy red fruit and herb. Licorice, lavender and grilled meat figure into the mix with ease, around lengthy elongated tannins and structured acidity.

92The Wine Advocate

...cinnamon and nutmeg over black currant and plum, grilled beef, bitter chocolate, red berry jam, dried savory herbs and garrigue. Medium to full-bodied, it offers luscious, savory-spicy-accented fruits with fine, grainy tannins and lip-smacking freshness to lift the long finish.

92Vinous / IWC

...bold and juicy, yet it retains terrific freshness to play off all of that fruit intensity... The Zinfandel is actually really expressive in this blend

91Wine Spectator

A bruiser of a red, with potent and brooding smoky plum and blackberry flavors, accented by briary underbrush and tar notes, building intensity toward full-bodied tannins.

REGION

United States, California, Sonoma, Russian River Valley

Russian River Valley AVA is named for the river that meanders from Mendocino County in the north until it finally runs into the Pacific Ocean north of San Francisco. The AVA is cool thanks to its proximity to the northern California coast and the river, and grape growers must learn to deal with regular fog. Nevertheless in recent decades the AVA has become one of the best in the state, meaning that its wines often earn excellent reviews and have considerable cachet. The AVA status was awarded in 1983 and today the appellation has 15,000 vineyard acres. Chardonnay is the most widely planted grape though Pinot Noir has also been very successful in recent decades. Russian River Valley Pinot Noir are known for being rich, lush and filled with concentrated fruit and berry flavors. Russian River Pinot Noirs are today considered some of the best domestic Pinot Noirs.
