RATINGS

90Wine Spectator

A polished, well-developed red, with plenty of charm to the kirsch, rose hip and rooibos tea notes that mingle at the core. Lively and graceful, featuring just enough tannins for balance. Offers a long, mineral-infused finish.

90Wine Enthusiast

Pronounced aromas of roasted coffee, cocoa, curing spice, charred plum and cherry skin form the nose of this wine, with green peppercorn and minty bramble accents in the back. The palate is medium in weight and plush in feel, with supple but medium-intense tannins and ample acidity to frame the rich dark-fruit tones. The finish is medium in length and fruit fueled, with a kiss of licorice on the back.

PRODUCER

Hamilton Russell

Hamilton Russell Vineyards is in the cool, maritime appellation of Hemel-en-Arde, nestled behind a historic fishing village off the southern tip of South Africa. The estate was founded in 1975 by Tim Hamilton Russell, who bought nearly 450 acres. In 1994 Russell’s son Anthony Hamilton Russell purchased the property and decided to focus on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Today there are 125 vineyard acres dedicated to low-yield production of Burgundian style wines. Wine Spectator has written that Hamilton Russell Vineyards “has become a flag bearer for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from South Africa.”
