...The nose is immediately striking thanks to its otherworldly delineation and purity: dark cherries mingling with wild strawberry, life-affirming mineralite and a sheen that belongs more to Vosne-Romanee than Volnay. The palate does not disappoint, embroidered with filigree tannins, a convincing sense of symmetry and a thrilling sense of harmony. Everything here just seems to be in its right place and it is damn difficult to fault... Drink now-2025+.
This is starting to show its age (even from magnum) and the aromatic profile reveals the initial hints of sous-bois and earth notes followed by nicely complex flavors that offer good richness and a reasonably long finish where the acidity is beginning to show. In sum, the '85 Santenots is now starting a graceful decline from its former glory and while it's still rich and the tannins are resolved...
