RATINGS

100James Suckling

Blackberries, herbs, green pine needles, blackcurrants and lead pencil. Full-bodied with incredible structure and powerful tannins... Muscular, but the tannins give form and focus to the beautiful fruit...Extraordinary.

100Jeb Dunnuck

…flat-out awesome wine…extraordinary notes of crème de cassis, blueberries, mountain scrub brush, graphite, violets, and cedar pencil, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, layers of ripe, seamless tannins…a beautiful sense of freshness, and a great, great finish.

99The Wine Advocate

...vivacious scents of black cherries, black raspberries and black currant pastilles, followed by nuances of pencil shavings, tilled earth, lilacs and underbrush plus a waft of crushed rocks…full-bodied palate…packed with muscular, impactful black fruits, featuring a rock-solid backbone of firm, grainy tannins, finishing with a whole firework display of earthy/minerally sparks.

98Vinous / IWC

…powerful and yet light on its feet. Red berry fruit, iron, dried herbs and rose petals…with myriad layers of nuance… Red fruit, pomegranate, blood orange, gravel and dried herbs linger.

96Wine Spectator

Packed with fruit…vivid and full of energy, with plum pâte de fruit, açaí reduction and boysenberry preserves flavors streaming through, carried by a graphite note, all while an invigorating licorice snap and floral streak work throughout. A great racy iron note at the very end carries it all through the encore.

REGION

United States, California, Napa Valley, Mount Veeder

Mount Veeder AVA was established in 1993, though its origins as a wine producing district date to the 19th century. A German Presbyterian pastor named Peter Veeder was one of the first landowners in the area, and by 1864 one of his neighbors, a German sea captain named Stelham Wing, was producing wine commercially. The area continued to attract German agricultural entrepreneurs, some of whom established the estate that would later become the Christian Brothers Mont La Salle winery. Today the AVA includes about 1,000 acres of vineyards, most of them at relatively high altitudes. The Mayacamas vineyard, for instance, is at 2,400 feet. Cabernet Sauvignon is the most frequently planted grape, followed by Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.

TYPE

Red Wine, Cabernet Sauvignon

One of the most widely grown grape varieties, it can be found in nearly every wine growing region. A cross between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc. It’s a hardy vine that produces a full-bodied wine with high tannins and great aging potential.
