RATINGS

99Jeb Dunnuck

...incredible aromatics of black and blue fruits, spring flowers, and graphite to go with a massive, full-bodied, concentrated style on the palate that somehow stays graceful, weightless, and elegant.

97+ The Wine Advocate

...notes of cassis, wild blueberries and stewed plums, followed by hints of sandalwood, cedar, Indian spices and charcoal. The full-bodied palate is rich, opulent and hedonic, featuring concentrated black fruit preserves flavors with a whole fireworks display of exotic spice sparks, framed by velvety tannins and seamless freshness, finishing with fantastic length.

97Vinous / IWC

...sleek, polished and flamboyant to the core...heady concoction of inky dark fruit, crushed raspberry, mocha, dried flowers, spice and rose petal, all wrapped together in a stylish package that delivers the goods...superb.

95James Suckling

...beautiful, complex red with blackberry, black earth and bark. Medium to full body with firm, creamy tannins that are integrated and very finely textured. Juicy and flavorful.

PRODUCER

Alejandro Bulgheroni

Alejandro Bulgheroni Estate is a new Napa Valley enterprise for Alejandro Bulgheroni, an Argentinian-Italian vintner and entrepreneur who owns wine estates in Argentina, Uruguay, Italy, France and Australia. This new estate is focused on producing small-batch, handcrafted Cabernet Sauvignon from prestigious Napa Valley terroir. The estate’s debut release was a 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon. Bulgheroni has assembled a winemaking dream team, starting with acclaimed winemaker Philippe Melka and consultant Michel Rolland. Veteran viticulturist Jim Barbour is vineyard operations manager. The 14-acre parcel that makes up the new estate has been through many transformations since the mid-19th century when it was part of an historic ranch. It was later part of Charles Krug Winery. Alejandro Bulgheroni makes Cabernet Sauvignon that is generally available only through the mailing list.

REGION

United States, California, Napa Valley, St. Helena

St. Helena AVA is at the northern end of Napa Valley just north of Rutherford and south of Calistoga. It is a relatively warm climate thanks to the Mayacamas Mountains on its western edge, which protect it from Pacific Ocean fog. Out of the 9,000 acres in the appellation, some 1,500 are under vine. The principal grapes grown in St. Helena are the Bordeaux grapes of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. St. Helena is considered prime wine producing territory, and it was one of the first important wine producing regions in northern California. The legendary Charles Krug founded his winery just north of the town of St. Helena in 1873, and today the appellation is home to many prestigious producers, including Abreu, Grace Family and Spottswoode.

TYPE

Red Wine, Cabernet Sauvignon

One of the most widely grown grape varieties, it can be found in nearly every wine growing region. A cross between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc. It’s a hardy vine that produces a full-bodied wine with high tannins and great aging potential.
