RATINGS

93Wine Spectator

The cherry, black currant and blackberry fruit shows fine purity, with a supple texture and harmony allowing this to hit all the right notes...linear profile, lingering with echoing fruit, accented by wild herb and tobacco elements.

93James Suckling

Wonderfully complex aromas that are rich with dried-cherry, floral and orange-peel character. Full-bodied, dense and layered with lots of ripe tannins and a fresh finish.

92The Wine Advocate

You can taste the sunshine in the dark fruit of the wine and make out some of the salty tones that lift off the Tyrrhenian Sea not too far away... Blackberry and plum are enriched with evident oak spice and cinnamon.

92Vinous / IWC

...finessed, light on its feet and full of character. Punchy, flavorful sweet red cherry, plum, blood orange, mint and sweet floral notes are beautifully delineated in a bright and nuanced Piaggia that hits all the right notes. Soft, pliant and easygoing...

REGION

Italy, Tuscany, Carmignano

Carmignano is a small DOCG west of Florence known for adventuresome Sangiovese based wines. The appellation has only about 750 vineyard acres and it is dominated by several large producers. Appellation regulations in Carmignano require that along with at least 50% Sangiovese, wines must include percent Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and/or Canaiolo Nero. The blends can result in wines exhibiting the most interesting characteristics of all the grapes included.
