RATINGS

93James Suckling

Aromas of sandalwood, cedar and dark berries follow through to a full body, with chewy and rich tannins that remain fine-grained and polished.

92Wine Spectator

...core of red and black currant paste flavors. Lots of charcoal and warm cast iron notes score the finish, lending additional texture and length to the overall impression. A violet hint flows through to give this a hint of charm.

92Vinous / IWC

...irresistibly beautiful, racy Pauillac. Sweet floral and spice overtones add brilliant top notes to a core of bright red cherry and plum fruit. Generous, supple and inviting, with silky tannins...

92Jeb Dunnuck

Classic dark fruits, graphite, licorice, cedarwood, and subtle oak all emerge from this medium-bodied, balanced, layered Pauillac.

90The Wine Advocate

...kirsch, redcurrant jelly and baked blackcurrants with nuances of tilled soil and dried herbs...palate is medium-bodied, packed, elegant, refreshing...firm tannins, finishing long.

PRODUCER

Château Lynch-Bages (Second Label)

Echo de Lynch-Bages is the second wine of Chateau Lynch-Bages. From 1976 to 2008 the wine was called Chateau Haut-Bages Averous. As of 2008, however, the wine Chateau Haut-Bages Averous changed to Echo do Lynch-Bages. Echo is made from the property’s younger vines and has a slightly higher proportion of Merlot and Cabernet Franc than the flagship wine.

REGION

France, Bordeaux, Pauillac

Pauillac is Bordeaux’s most famous appellation, thanks to the fact that it is home to three of the region’s fabled first-growth châteaux, Lafite-Rothschild, Mouton-Rothschild and Latour. Perched on the left bank of the Gironde River north of the city of Bordeaux, Pauillac is centered around the commune of Pauillac and includes about 3,000 acres of vineyards. The Bordeaux classification of 1855 named 18 classified growths, including the three above mentioned First Growths. Cabernet Sauvignon is the principal grape grown, followed by Merlot. The soil is mostly sandy gravel mixed with marl and iron. Robert M. Parker Jr. has written that “the textbook Pauillac would tend to have a rich, full-bodied texture, a distinctive bouquet of black currants, licorice and cedary scents, and excellent aging potential.”
