RATINGS

92James Suckling

Very pretty aromas of perfume, currants and orange peel follow through to a full body, round and chewy tannins and a flavorful finish.

91Wine Spectator

Offers an enticing core of plum, black currant and raspberry paste flavors that are mixed with light charcoal, licorice and singed alder notes. This has energy to match its range through the finish.

91Wine Enthusiast

This is a ripe, lightly toasty wine, rich with blackberry flavors and showing considerable weight.

90Vinous / IWC

Inky red/purplish fruit, floral notes and spice are among the signatures. Sweet floral notes and silky, polished tannins add to an impression of finesse.

17Jancis Robinson

Cherry and box-hedge aromas, some smoky dry tea leaf. Close-grained tannins fitting the restrained, tiny-blackcurrant fruit like a well-tailored suit. Compact, tiny stitches, perfectly parallel.

REGION

France, Bordeaux, Fronsac

Fronsac is a small appellation northwest of Saint-Émilion. Fronsac produces only red wines and has about 2,000 vineyard acres. Canon-Fronsac is a smaller appellation within Fronsac. Merlot is the primary grape in Fronsac, followed by Cabernet Franc Cabernet Sauvignon. Fronsac wines are generally full-bodied and plummy. In the 18th and 19th centuries Fronsac wines had the same prestige as the wines of St.-Émilion, though by the mid-20th century Fronsac wines were less renowned. Today, however, young and innovative older winemakers are reviving traditional estates. Some have gone the garagiste route by making non-historic blends.
