RATINGS

95Wine Spectator

Powerfully fresh and crunchy, with plenty of minerality to the dried cherry and berry flavors that are backed by crisp acidity. Shows cedary notes and hints of juniper berry on the lithe finish.

94Vinous / IWC

...juicy, open-knit and seductive. Sweet red cherry, red plum, spice, mint and blood orange infuse the 2018 with tons of nuance and character...stands out for its mid-palate density and creaminess, along with slightly darker/purplish tonalities of fruit.

94James Suckling

A really beautiful red with dried strawberry, subtle citrus and cedar with some walnut. Forest floor, too. It’s full-bodied, yet tensioned, very polished and focused. Lovely finish.

94Jeb Dunnuck

...mineral-laced, marine, and savory earth-driven bouquet that includes plenty of ripe red fruit, forest floor, and spring flower-like aromas and flavors. It’s vibrant, racy, and nicely focused on the palate, with good acidity, building minerality, and a great finish.

92The Wine Advocate

...tones of laurel, bark, earth and tea leaves, with red berry fruits and lemon peel at the core. The light-bodied palate features earth-laced fruits with a soft, juicy frame and long finish.

PRODUCER

Hirsch Vineyards

Hirsch Vineyards is on the Sonoma Coast. It was established in 1980 when David Hirsch began growing Pinot Noir and making wine. The estate today is still owned and operated by Hirsch, his wife and daughter. The estate makes Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

REGION

United States, California, Sonoma, Sonoma Coast

Sonoma Coast AVA runs from San Pablo Bay in the south to Mendocino County in the north. It includes 7,000 vineyard acres and earned AVA status in 1987. Its proximity to the Pacific Ocean means it gets double the rainfall of nearby inland appellations and the ocean gives the appellation a relatively cool climate. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir can thrive in these conditions, and there are numerous producers making critically acclaimed Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

TYPE

Red Wine, Pinot Noir

This red wine is relatively light and can pair with a wide variety of foods. The grape prefers cooler climates and the wine is most often associated with Burgundy, Champagne and the U.S. west coast. Regional differences make it nearly as fickle as it is flexible.
