RATINGS

96James Suckling

A chewy and solid wine with crushed stones and dark berries, blueberries and lavender. Full body and big... Mountain fruit. Sweet and sour undertone.

96+ Jeb Dunnuck

Lots of cassis, bay leaf, and floral notes all soar from the glass of this deep purple-colored effort. Offering more minerality and crushed rock on the palate, full-bodied richness and depth, and terrific integration of its fruit, tannins, and acidity...

95Wine Enthusiast

Woody and earthy in cedar and dried herb...a juicy center of black currant, blueberry and cocoa powder. The acidity is fresh and persistent, adding length and breadth...

94+ The Wine Advocate

...gregarious warm plums, spice cake and Black Forest cake scents with compelling touches of blueberries, tilled soil, wild sage and violets. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has a rock-solid foundation of firm, grainy tannins and oodles of freshness framing bags of opulent fruit accented by earth and mineral layers, finishing long.

92Vinous / IWC

Powerful and enveloping on the palate...quite brooding in personality. Scorched earth, smoke, lavender, chocolate, French oak and rose petal add layers of nuance throughout.

REGION

United States, California, Napa Valley, Mount Veeder

Mount Veeder AVA was established in 1993, though its origins as a wine producing district date to the 19th century. A German Presbyterian pastor named Peter Veeder was one of the first landowners in the area, and by 1864 one of his neighbors, a German sea captain named Stelham Wing, was producing wine commercially. The area continued to attract German agricultural entrepreneurs, some of whom established the estate that would later become the Christian Brothers Mont La Salle winery. Today the AVA includes about 1,000 acres of vineyards, most of them at relatively high altitudes. The Mayacamas vineyard, for instance, is at 2,400 feet. Cabernet Sauvignon is the most frequently planted grape, followed by Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.

TYPE

Red Wine, Cabernet Sauvignon

One of the most widely grown grape varieties, it can be found in nearly every wine growing region. A cross between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc. It’s a hardy vine that produces a full-bodied wine with high tannins and great aging potential.
