RATINGS

94Wine Spectator

...bold, pungent and savory, all while retaining the mid-weight sense of structure that is such a signature here. Black pepper, lavender, mint, rose petal and dried herbs add lovely layers of dimension...super-expressive and really delicious...

92-94Jeb Dunnuck

...offers a slightly more masculine vibe as well as plenty of darker fruits, olive tapenade, crushed stone, and pepper meat aromas and flavors. Rich, medium-bodied, nicely concentrated, and elegant, it has plenty of mid-palate depth as well as building tannins.

89-91The Wine Advocate

...nose of blueberry and boysenberry preserves, bacon fat, olive, chocolate-covered cherries, savory herbs and hints of flowers and red berries. Medium to full-bodied, it has a good core of savory fruits with very firm, grainy tannins and juicy freshness on the finish.

17Jancis Robinson

Sumptuously ripe Syrah on the nose. Pure hedonism... Lots of energy.

REGION

United States, California, North Coast, Mendocino County, Yorkville Highlands

Mendocino AVA was established in 1984 and amended in 1989. It includes numerous sub-appellations. Mendocino AVA is entirely within Mendocino County, and the AVA is known for its Mediterranean climate. Vintners successfully grow Carignan, Charbono, Grenache, Zinfandel, Petit Sirah and Syrah. In cooler parts of the region Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are also grown. Mendocino County is home to nearly 600 vineyards, and many have been certified organic for decades, thanks to the region’s famous “green and sustainable” approach to agriculture and nearly everything else. Mendocino was named for 16th century explorers, a pair of brothers whose last name was Mendoza. Winemaking, however, didn’t start until the 19th century when some would-be gold miners decided it was more profitable to make wine than to pan for gold. Italian immigrants in the late 19th century continued to establish winemaking ventures.
