RATINGS

94James Suckling

So perfumed with sliced strawberry and opens to dark fruits such as raspberries and stems. Full body, with intense structure. Hints of tea...

92The Wine Advocate

...a fragrant nose of ripe black cherries, black raspberries and violets with nuances of underbrush, nutmeg and powdered cinnamon. Medium-bodied, it gives a great intensity of red berry and spice flavors in the mouth with a medium level of finely grained tannins and crisp acid to support, finishing long and layered.

92Stephen Tanzer

Enticing aromas of raspberry and smoke. Sweet, supple and concentrated, offering impressive fruit intensity and volume, with underlying minerality contributing to the impression of flavor definition. Finishes very long, with noble tannins. Really lovely fruit here.

17Jancis Robinson

...dark fruit. Firm and savoury and deeper than the 2009 but still fine grained. Dry firm finish. Very fresh on the end.

REGION

New Zealand, Wairarapa

Wairarapa is on the south end of New Zealand’s north island, and it is the country’s most exciting Pinot Noir region. Martinborough is the very small town that serves as the South Wairarapa region’s commercial center, and the district is home to more than 60 wineries, many of them specializing in Pinot Noir, and, more recently Pinot Gris. A mountain range between Wellington, to the west, and Wairarapa keeps the region’s vineyards temperate, with relatively dry falls that are optimal for Pinot Noir harvesting. The region also has the greatest variation between average daytime and average night temperatures, also a boon to grape growing and especially Pinot Noir. Sauvignon Blanc is also grown.

TYPE

Red Wine, Pinot Noir

This red wine is relatively light and can pair with a wide variety of foods. The grape prefers cooler climates and the wine is most often associated with Burgundy, Champagne and the U.S. west coast. Regional differences make it nearly as fickle as it is flexible.
