Kornell is in Alto Adige in the far north of Italy, tucked into the valleys of the Dolomite Mountains under Austria and Switzerland. Like many producers in the region, the viticulture here is a blend of Italian and Austrian traditions. The Brigl family has been farming in the area since the 14th century on an estate that includes 42 acres of vineyards. For several decades in the late 20th century the family sold their grapes to other producers. But in 2001 Florian Brigl, who today runs the estate, began once again vinifying and bottling wine under the estate’s Kornell label. Kornell grows Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Bianco, Gewurztraminer, Muller Thurgau, Lagrein, Pinot Nero, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
